Cnidari marini di forma polipoide. Sono rappresentate  forme con scheletro di carbonato di calcio (aragonite), secreto dall’epitelio ectodermico della metà inferiore della colonna del polipo; pertanto, si tratti di forme solitarie o coloniali, i polipi poggiano e sono parzialmente inclusi in un calice calcareo.
