Questo volume presenta i risultati del progetto di ricerca congiunta Innovative Japanese Studies through International Cooperation: The Fostering of Young Researchers by Cooperation with Overseas Institutes of Japanese Studies, condotto dalla Graduate School of Humanities, Kobe University, Giappone come parte del Program for Advancing Strategic International Networks to Accelerate the Circulation of Talented Researchers, e finanziato dalla Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). Da ottobre 2013 a marzo 2016, giovani ricercatori e studiosi dell'Università di Kobe e dei loro partner di progetto europei, l'Università Ca' Foscari di Venezia, l'Università di Oxford e l'Università di Amburgo, si sono riuniti in diverse conferenze e seminari tenuti in Giappone e in Europa per discutere e sviluppare nuove prospettive negli studi giapponesi con un approccio multidisciplinare e comparativo, con contributi qui raccolti, che vanno dalla letteratura e dagli studi socioculturali alla linguistica e all'insegnamento delle lingue.
