These crustaceans are dorsoventrally flattened, lack a carapace, and have sessile compounds eyes and a reduced abdomen. Living in all the environments; some species are parasitic.

Asellus, 1) dorsal view, ventral nerve cord; 2) lateral view of a female with eggs in the marsupium and a dorsal heart.
3) A developmental stage.
4) Transverse section at the level of thorax.
5) Dorsal view of Oniscoidea: digestive system and digestive gland are visible.
6) Ventral view of a female with eggs in the marsupium.
