Description
Phylum Entoprocta
Marine organisms provided with a ciliary filter apparatus: the lophophore. Colony of Pedicillina cernua (1) and an isolated zooid (2).
Phylum Ectoprocta
Marine and freshwater organisms, mainly colonial forms, provided with a lophophore.
Portion of a colony of Plumatella (3). Flustra, single zooid with everted polypide and cystid (15). Portion of a colony of an incrusting ectoproct (16). Statoblasts (6, 7).
Different larval stages are evident (10, 11).
Ectoprocta have long been called Bryozoa or “moss animals", a term that originally included Entoprocta also.
