Corallium rubrum
Colony of polyps with eight pinnate tentacles and eight mesenterial septa, interconnected by means of tubules of the coenenchyme. The axial rod of fused limy spicules is evident. Red colour is due to the presence of carotenoids and of traces of astaxanthin and canthaxanthin.
