Aurelia aurita
1) Adult jellyfish with a mouth at the centre of the subumbrella, manubrium forms 4 oral arms for food capture and ingestion. Many short tentacles at the margin of umbrella. Four gastric pouches, containing gonads (in pink), from which radial canals depart up to a ring canal. ¼ of umbrella was removed to show the canals.
2) Longitudinal section of the umbrella: mesoglea (green); epidermis (blue-grey); endodermis, delimiting stomach and canals (red); gonads (blue).
