PHAIDRA – Digital collections

Photo album of colonial Eritrea, approximately dating from 1930 to 1960.
The collection, donated in 2019 by Laura Lanzieri to the History Library, includes 356 pictures, of which 25 photographs, 164 real photographic postcards and 167 contact sheets.
The field of interest is colonial Italian East Africa, in particular Eritrea during the Fascist period and immediately after.
The subjects of the photographs are mainly landscapes, local fauna and flora, views of the cities of Massawa and Asmara but also of smaller towns and rural villages, as well as portraits of the Eritrean population of ethnographic interest.
