Description
Echinorhynchus gigas
Two female adults and one male; a larval stage. All acanthocephalans are endoparasites, living as adults in the intestine of aquatic and terrestrial Vertebrates; larvae develop in arthropods, either crustaceans or insects (intermediate hosts).
1, 2) Adult with a retractile proboscis, which bears rows of recurved hooks. Two elongated hydraulic sacs (lemnisci) facilitate the extension of proboscis. Reproductive system is evident.
