PHAIDRA – Digital collections

The collection includes 49 unpublished manuscript documents in Croatian Glagolitic cursive alphabet from the Slavistics section of the Beato Pellegrino Library of Literary, Linguistic, Pedagogical and Performing Arts Studies.
The documents were acquired in 1950 by Prof. Arturo Cronia and bear the stamp of the Institute of Slavistics of the University of Padua with the entry number 4184 b.
They are separate sheets of various sizes from the Zadar territories (hinterland and islands, especially Ugljan), in croatian language but in some cases with parts of the text in Italian.
The texts are of legal-administrative content, mainly from the second half of the 17th century: they are mainly sent by the governor of Zadar to local judges, but some of them include pleas from peasants to the owners of the land they cultivated.
The documents are of particular relevance as a source for historical studies on the Croatian-Dalmatian area, Croatian and Slavic dialectology and Slavic-Romance contact.
The digitization reproduces recto and verso of each document in a single image, where seals and embossed stamps also appear.
