Geologists Portrait Collection
It includes portraits of geologists, naturalists and scientists, both Italians and foreigners. The collection is preserved at the Library of Geosciences of the University of Padua.
It consists of:
- 115 photographs collected in an album offered to Giovanni Omboni with 42 handwritten dedications
- A yet unquantified number of portraits and printed images
The photographs were produced using historical photographic processes: albumen print, aristotype, collotype, platinotype, mechanical reproduction. Some photographic studios are renowned in the history of photography, for example: The Pach Brothers photography studio, Ferdinand Urbahns, Atelier Rudloff, Premiato Stabilimento fotografico R. Donnini, F.lli Biondi, Emanuele Giannone, Costante Agostini.
The name of the scientist has been obtained by the signature at the bottom of the photograph or by the handwritten dedication; where the name of the subject is unreadable, the adopted title is "Portrait of a man."
