Photographic archive of the University Centre for the History of the Resistance and of the Contemporary Era

The photographic collection for the history of the Resistance and of the contemporary era which the University Centre inherited from IVSREC (Istituto Veneto per la storia della Resistenza e dell’ètà Contemporanea, Veneto Institute for the History of the Resistance and of the Contemporary Era) consists of 919 images of war and resistance in Padua and the Northeast (the area of Venice, Verona, Treviso, Belluno, Bolzano and Trieste). The collection is comprised of 867 photographs, 30 obituaries and funeral notices, 12 postcards, 5 documents, 3 photocopies, 2 photomechanical reproductions and 1 slide. The collection, which was started by IVSREC on its inception (1949), has grown over the years with documents donated by private individuals and organizations as well as acquisitions from military archives (the Federal Archives in Koblenz).
Particularly interesting are the section dedicated to the University of Padua, the only Italian university awarded a gold medal for military valour for its role in the Resistance, and the series of photos of the bombings of Padua from the collection of Sergio Nave, in part from the US National Archives in Washington.
The images are arranged in a thematic map (PDF) and a geographical map (PDF).
The collection can also be accessed via Europeana.
The photographic collection, which was digitized in 2012 in collaboration with the University of Padua’s University Library Centre (Centro di Ateneo per le Biblioteche, CAB), adds to the collection of 109 manifestos produced by the Italian Social Republic (Repubblica Sociale Italiana, RSI) purchased by IVSREC in 1965 and restored and digitized in 2003 by the University of Padua’s Lettere-Capitaniato Library Centre.
"Padova agosto 1944", the video was made from three posters and two photographs of the Posters collection of the Italian Social Republic.
