Migratory insects, with hindlegs adapted for jumping; thickened forewings (tegmina) which are less wide than hindwings.
Female with an ovopositor, laying eggs in an ootheca; paurometabolous post-embryonic development with different stages of instars and nymph, characterized by a progressive increase in size of wings.
