Sacré et profane dans deux cathédrales du XIIe siècle. Le contexte culturel de l’'Artus' de Modène et du 'Roland' de Vérone
Descrizione
Following a short review of the interpretations of two sculptures unique to Romanesque art in Northern Italy (King Arthur on the northern gate of the Duomo in Modena, and Roland on the facade of the Verona Duomo), the A. observes that these themes are not necessarily rare for the region.
His inventory then takes into account other secular representations in a religious or secular context, including the legendary corpus of Dietrich poems. The A. concludes that the presence of the two literary heroes on the two Italian churches is due to the internationalization of French literature, which makes no strict distinction between biblical subjects and fiction.
